Your New Year Beauty Resolutions

Every year you say it: “new year, new you.” This is often followed with a resolution to get fit or read more, or what have you. In fact, we’ve all done it, and we usually start off gung-ho and then let the resolution silently die out in a couple of months. So why not try to commit to something this year that is easy to incorporate into your daily routine and doesn’t require a gym membership? Resolve to be better to you this year and stay committed to a better beauty routine. After all, a good beauty routine is something that can not only take years off of your appearance, but it can help you to maintain your appearance for years to come.

How to Stick to It

Of course a resolution is only helpful if you stick to it, and an excellent way to ensure that you stick to these easy lifestyle changes listed below, is to tell others about it. When you had your exercise resolution last year or the year before, you most likely had a gym buddy to motivate you and help you stick to it. Because your beauty routine is done in the comfort of your own home, there’s usually no one but you to hold you to account. One great way to stay motivated is to blog about it. Creating a beauty blog is not only easy, with many great pre-designed templates to choose from, but it can also be a great way for others to see and be inspired by your journey as you document it – perhaps even giving you some cheering-on as by replying to your posts. There’s also a great motivational factor about having declared that you are going to do something as well as that pull to publish your latest update. A blog also serves as a great diary for you to look back on at the end of the year to see how far you’ve come. Make sure to take pictures to see step by step how your beauty routine is improving your skin and hair!

Resolve to…

  • Be good to your skin
Use SPF. Sun is wonderful, but sun spots and weathering from UV rays, on the other hand, are not. Aside from the obvious risks involved with exposing your skin to too much sun, it is also harsh on the and will age your skin prematurely. Resolve this year to always apply a layer of SPF cream (at least SPF 15) daily as a base before applying your makeup.
  • Stick to a good cleansing and moisturizing routine
If you’re like me, every year you tell yourself that you will cleanse, tone, and moisturize and that usually lasts a total of three days until you have an evening when you’re just too tired to do the whole routine – even if it only takes 5 minutes. However, if you want that glowing complexion that never goes out of trend, the only way to get it is to put in the work. You should sample different brands to see what works best for your skin type.
  • Break with bad habits
No matter how tired you are, DO NOT sleep in your makeup. We’ve all been there, especially after a late evening out. In order to benefit from the regenerative aspects of sleep and promote skin repair, you need to allow your skin to breathe, and that means a clean face.
  • Detox your makeup bag
Any of us who love makeup and trying new things as they trend will always end up with some older products in our makeup bags. However, old makeup can actually have a toxic effect on your skin and eyes, as well as simply clutter up your precious space. Now is the time for a fresh start, so throw away anything that is over a year old (or mascara that is older than 4 months old). And don’t forget to clean your brushes!
  • Repair your hair
Radiant skin and great new makeup tricks can be overshadowed by unruly hair. Shiny and healthy is key! Hair care is not actually as difficult as it may seem, and there are in fact a lot of ways to maintain and even repair your hair with inexpensive, natural home-made remedies – most with ingredients that you probably already have at home. Spend a little time and even less money to get your hair in shape this year by battling your split ends, restoring balance, and getting the right cut.
